What does it mean to make home and work in the context of an emergent global city? We met with Jumana Darwish, founder of Happy Box UAE, in Barsha park, a public park in the center of Dubai. After walking around the park observing the signage, sites, sounds, and people in it, we sat down with Jumana to hear about her experience of founding her company in 2014. Our discussions centered on businesses which focus on child-related products and services, the entrepreneurship eco-system in Dubai, and the ways in which profit and non-profit considerations shaped her entrepreneurial journey. We reflected on what it means for a public space like the park to function as a key site for private businesses (such as events companies.)
