During our trip to Sharjah, Mahnaz Fancy, Senior Program Officer at Sharjah Architecture Triennial, walked us through the Sharjah Architecture Triennial exhibition curated by Adrian Lahoud titled “The Rights of Future Generations”. This exhibition includes installations and projects that focus on the built environment from a variety of locations in the global south. Installations relevant to our course included: An archive of documentation about domestic worker rooms in residential housing projects, gendered public housing schemes, and an interactive audio-visual archive of the United Nations funded documentaries in developing countries globally. The trip enabled us to think about how architectural and spatial practices are gendered and how they can be shaped by national, regional, and global forces in complex ways.
